A Man's Word is his Word

On September 14, next Monday, I will announce my candidacy for the Texas House of Representatives District 85.  Prior to making this announcement, I consulted with many people in District 85 including a courtesy call to Jim Lantroop of Plainview, Texas.  Mr. Lantroop ran in 2006 and lost a close race against the Democratic opponent.  In the courtesy call to Mr. Lantroop, I asked him if he was planning on running in the 2010 race and his reply was no, "I am not running."  I indicated to him that if he was thinking about running again that I would remain out of the race and support him.  Again, he indicated that he "[i]s not and does not want to run in 2010."  After the call to Mr. Lantroop, I started to get key people together from consultants to campaign workers and coordinating with my employer on taking a leave of absence from my work.  Starting a campaign is not cheap by any means but so far it has all come out of my pocket with no outside help.  Labor day weekend, I got a call from Mr. Lantroop that he will enter the race as a candidate for Texas House Seat 85.
I was shocked to hear that Mr. Lantroop has reneged on his position to run in 2010.  I took his word as a man that it was truthful and without reservations.  I deeply resent the fact that he lied and was not forthright with me.  I can only imagine if he is elected will his words mean anything truthful about how he intends to vote and if he is going to be another politician who thinks people do not mind being lied to and deceived on issues before the legislature.
I welcome the competition.  I am sure the voters will be interested in his flip flop stances and his way of doing business.  I intend to tell the truth, to take a stand on issues, as well as take a stand on my principles and not waiver.  As far as Mr. Lantroop is concerned, I am glad to know that whatever comes out of his mouth may not be the position he will take.  But then it is up to the conservative voters to see what candidate to believe - so far there is only one candidate that has spoken the truth for the voters of Texas House District 85.
